Pan-African Network for Laboratory Animal Science and Ethics (PAN-LASE)
Prof. Lewis co-founded PAN-LASE, fostering collaboration and professional development in laboratory animal sciences across Africa.
PAN-LASE has provided professional educational opportunities for 3600 stakeholders from 28 African countries, created Africa-centric Guidelines for Animal Ethics Committees, supported the establishment of animal research ethics committees, and created Learning Outcomes Frameworks for veterinary and para-veterinary professionals and animal caretakers in South Africa.

He co-creates, with educators in Africa, educational activities which enable students from both continents to collaborate online together to co-create solutions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals or Grand Challenges relevant to their discipline.
These opportunities can be within the taught curriculum, as capstone research projects or extracurricular activities.
They develop student cultural capital and awareness, and enhance employability in the globalised world. He is open to developing such partnerships with Institutions across the Global South.
Professional Education
Prof. Lewis chairs the International Union of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology’s Integrative and Organ Systems Initiative, collaborating with colleagues, particularly in the Global South, to co-create and co-deliver professional education courses in the host country or region for all those involved in the care and use of animals for research or educational purposes.
These courses equip educators to continue the training within their own networks, promoting ethical research practices across the continent
Visiting Academic
Prof. Lewis has given lectures at the Universities of Cape Town and KwaZulu Natal (South Africa) and the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene (Algeria).
