I am co-editor of the 2017 book "Africa's Media Image in the 21st Century" (Routledge), and have written extensively about the representation of Africa and the flow of communication in Africa.
I am on the editorial board of the two major international journalism focussed on African media and journalism (African Journalism Studies, African Media Studies).
Major projects
I originated and have led the Gender and information ecosystems in climate change adaptation project since 2017.
Together, researchers based at the University of Ghana, University of Nairobi, London School of Economics and Political Science, and the University of Leeds have been working to understand how women in selected rural Kenyan and Ghanaian communities engage with information about climate change.
Project researchers have lived for extended periods in villages in both countries, conducting in-depth interviews, observational ethnography, and focus groups.
This project started as a interdisciplinary collaboration with the GCRF-African SWIFT weather forecasting programme.
Collaborations
I have co-authored academic writing about Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique and Namibia and independently conducted research in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and South Africa.
I have co-organised symposia with colleagues in Ghana and Kenya, and represented the University of Leeds at the inaugural meeting of the World University Network's Africa Group in Ghana.
I have also worked with scholars from Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Lesotho.
I have supervised doctoral students from Kenya, Zambia, and Angola.
I have links as a journalist, and family links, in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique.
