Research focus

I have researched on labour rights and sustainability standards in the agriculture sector, particularly where production in parts of Africa is connected to global value chains.

This has been in the coffee sector in Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya with a focus on impacts on the voice of smallholders in this sector.

In the horticulture and floriculture sector my focus has been more on labour rights, especially with a gender lens and with respect to the voice of workers, particularly in Kenya and Zambia.

Collaborative research

I have connected with membership organisations representing smallscale farmers to explore how they can influence research agendas, particularly through collaborative research, with more of a focus on farmers growing for their own, local or regional consumption.

More recently I have begun to work on educational linkages in higher education and how they can become more equitable and reciprocal.
