My expertise is in religion as a critical part of socio-cultural and political life in contemporary African societies.
I am particularly interested in the intersections of religion, gender and sexuality, and have done extensive research on the role of religion in contestations over gender and sexual diversity, specifically in Kenya, Uganda, and Zambia.
An emerging area of interest is in religion and African cultural production, as well as in religion, ecology and the environment.
